Schema/Catalog Analysis (Exercise 2) Perform more precise overview analyses selecting your database schema or catalog.

In this exercise, you will perform a Catalog Analysis which is similar to the Database Overview Analysis created in Exercise 1. This analysis allows you to define more precisely the scope of the overview analysis.

Two types of analysis exist:
Catalogue Structure Overview: this analysis will be used on a catalog-based databases, such as MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server.
Schema Structure Overview: this analysis will be used on schema-based databases, such as Oracle or IBM DB2.

Prerequisites:
To follow this tutorial, you need to extract and install the cif and crm databases zipped in the exampleFile.zip file available for download in the Download it! section of this tutorial.

Performing Catalog Analyses


In the DQ Repository view:

Expand the Data Profiling node.
Right-click Analyses.
In the menu, click New Analysis to open the Create New Analysis wizard.

In the Create New Analysis wizard:

Expand the Catalog Analysis node.
Select the Catalog Structure Overview analysis.
Click Next.


Next
Name this analysis cif_overview and click Next.

Next
Select the cif catalog and click Next.

Do not create any filters and click Finish.

1) Save it by clicking on the Floppy Disk button and 2) execute the analysis by clicking on the Run button.

Analysis Parameters: in this zone, you can add filters on tables and views, which is useful to restrict the analysis scope.

Analysis Summary: gives basic information regarding the last execution of the analysis.

Statistical Information: provides the analysis results. Elements in red indicate that there is no record in the selected item.

You can now create another catalog analysis called crm_overview for the crm catalog by repeating the previous steps.
