Talend MDM Demo - Instructions to import the sample Familiarize yourself with Talend MDM Community Edition

This tutorial illustrates the basic features of Talend MDM Community Edition. It is also available in Talend's wiki page: http://talendforge.org/wiki/doku.php?id=mdmce:demo.

Since 4.0.2, Talend MDM CE includes Talend Open Studio. So it integrates a comprehensive and powerful Data Integration platform to cover the complete lifecycle of a master data in the hub:
- Initial loading from heterogeneous sources,
- Ongoing updates from data owners to keep the “single version of the truth”,
- Real-time enrichment with external sources and information providers,
- Real-time rule validation processes,
- Synchronization of subscribing applications with the latest changes.

The demo comprises the MDM model, associated jobs, and instructions to get started.

Prerequisite:
Talend MDM server and studio must be installed. To do so, follow this tutorial.
And you need to extract the MDMDemoModel.zip, MDMDemoJobs.zip and MDMDemoPictures.zip files zipped in the exampleFile.zip file available for download in the Download it! section of this tutorial.

Import the data model


Once Talend MDM Community Edition is launched and once you are connected to the MDM server, you can start installing the demo material.

To import the data model to Talend MDM:

In the MDM Server view, right-click the top node and select Import from the menu.

In the Import Objects wizard:

Select the Select Archive File option and click [...] to browse to the ProductDemo_41_Model.zip previously downloaded.

Click Finish.

In the MDM Server view:

The example data container, data model, triggers, processes and views are imported.

In Talend MDM Studio:

Click the menu Window > Perspective > Design Workspace to access the Talend Open Studio perspective.

Import the data integration Jobs


From the Talend Open Studio perspective:

Click the Import Items button on the tool bar to import the Jobs needed for this tutorial.

In the Import Items wizard:

Select the Select archive file option and click Browse... to browse to the ProductDemo_41_Jobs.zip file previously downloaded.

Click Select All to select the check box of all the items and click Finish.

All the items are imported in the project and available from the Repository.

Click MDM at the top right hand corner of the studio to display the MDM perspective.

From the MDM Server view of the MDM perspective:

Click the Refresh button of the MDM Server.

And expand the Job Repository, Source Jobs and MDMProductDemo nodes, all the Jobs imported in the Repository of Talend Open Studio are retrieved.

We want to deploy some of the imported Jobs on the MDM server. To do so:

Right-click the CheckAvailability Job and select Deploy in the menu.

You can also deploy jobs from the Talend Open Studio Repository tree view. To do so:
- Activate the Deploy on Talend MDM menu in the menu Windows > Preferences > Talend > Import/Export > Talend MDM Server, select the Enable/Disable Deploy on Talend MDM, and add your MDM Server in the list.
- Right-click the Jobs to deploy and select Deploy on Talend MDM in the menu.

In the Deploy to Talend MDM wizard:

In the Export type field, select Autonomous Job (Zip).

Click Finish.

Follow the same procedure to deploy the following Jobs:
- MakeAvailable,
- CompleteStoreURL,
- ValidatePriceChange,
- SynchronizeApps.

In the MDM Server view:

Expand the Job Repository and Deployed Jobs nodes, the deployed Jobs display.

Click Design Workspace at the top right hand corner of the studio to display the Talend Open Studio perspective.

Populate the data container


Now, populate the data container with example data by executing the MDM_LoadAll Job.

To do so, in the Repository view:

Expand the Job Designs, MDMProductDemo, MDM_Load nodes.

Right-click the MDM_LoadAll Job and select Run job in the menu.

The Run view displays at the bottom of the studio with the results of the execution.

Import the images of the demo


To import the images needed for the MDM demo, in your Windows explorer:

Browse to the ProductDemo_41_Pictures.zip downloaded file and extract it.

For this tutorial, we use 7zip to extract the files. So, we right-click on the zip file and select Extract file on the menu.

On your unzip application:

Extract the ProductDemo_41_Pictures.zip file onto the upload directory where the MDM Server is installed:

<MDM server install dir>/jboss-4.2.2.GA/server/default/deploy/zz.50.ext.imageserver.war/upload

The images are unzipped in a new directory under <MDM server install dir>/jboss-4.2.2.GA/server/default/deploy/zz.50.ext.imageserver.war/upload
